Emily has always been a big believer in the benefits of massage to our overall health, and we are very happy to have her expertise on our Cardiff massage team. Combining her level 3 sports massage and chiropractic training, she is able to offer a better understanding of peoples soft tissue injuries and direct her patients along the best path to recovery.

Using a combination of this knowledge she is able to treat a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, as well as sports injuries, work-related and postural problems, and stress-related muscle tension.

What are Sports & Remedial Massage?

Sports massage is a deeper style of massage that can be beneficial at various stages of a training routine regardless of what level you participate. Regular sports massage can help to maintain and improve muscle health, flexibility and ranges of motion. Sports massage can be used to prepare the body for an event, or after to help it return to a pre-event state.

Remedial massage is a therapeutic treatment focused on addressing musculoskeletal issues to relieve pain, improve movement, and promote healing. It goes beyond relaxation, using specific techniques to target muscle tension, injuries, and imbalances. Unlike general relaxation massages, remedial massage aims to treat the root cause of problems and aid recovery

Remedial and sports massage both aim to relieve muscle tension and pain, but they differ in their primary focus and techniques. Remedial massage focuses on treating specific injuries, chronic pain, and musculoskeletal imbalances, while sports massage is tailored to athletes and active individuals, emphasizing injury prevention, performance enhancement, and recovery.

Sports Massage FAQs

How is sports massage different from regular massage?

It combines deep tissue and remedial techniques to target specific injuries, chronic tension, and performance-related issues — not just relaxation.

Who should get a sports massage?

It’s ideal for athletes, gym-goers, and anyone experiencing pain, stiffness, or reduced mobility due to injury, posture, or overuse.

Does Sports and Remedial massage hurt?

Some techniques may feel firm or intense, especially when addressing problem areas, but your therapist will adjust pressure to your comfort.

How often should I get a sports and remedial massage?

For rehabilitation or performance, sessions may be weekly or bi-weekly. For maintenance, every 3–4 weeks is often recommended.
